I had a chest xray and the radiologist reported there is a shadow on my right lung therefore I was sent for further chest xrays including lateral view of right side of chest also. Finished course but still coughing up green gunge and still had pain in left side of chest so began another course of clarythromycin 500mg for 7 days which I'm currently taking. Now on 3rd course of antibiotics, started on Amoxycillin 500mg twice daily for 8 days but felt little improvement and developed pleurisy so Dr in A&E changed antibiotic to Claryithmomycin 500mg twice daily for 7 days. I subsequently got worse with fever, vomiting and productive cough. Alcohol and smoking must also be curbed as these increase mucus production.I am currently being treated for pneumonia, started with it 5 weeks ago but not treated with antibiotics until 10th day as the nurse in urgent care centre told me it was a viral infection even though I had green sputum. Antibiotics and in severe cases, antiviral drugs may be required if the infection progresses.Īvoid taking such as very oily and spicy food, curd and other dairy products.Your physician may advise you some mucolytic agents or nebulisation which will help you to breathe better. Bronchitis may cause some degree of breathlessness due to excess mucus production.Nasal sprays may be advised to relief a blocked nose or severely obstructed sinuses.Your physician may advice a cough syrup to either help you expectorate or reduce the mucus production.Treatment for Coughing up White Foamy Mucus Warm soups and broths help to soothe the throat.Garlic has anti-bacterial qualities and helps in reducing inflammation and mucus production.Warm water with apple cider vinegar helps in reducing infectivity. Apple cider vinegar has anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal properties.Warm water with ginger or ginger infused tea soothes the throat. Ginger works as a decongestant and anti-allergic.Drinking warm water with lemon and honey is known to clear lymphatic glands, thereby, reducing infection.Salt water gargling helps tremendously in reducing throat infection. ![]() ![]() Drinking plenty of water makes it easier for the body to get rid of viruses and toxins. ![]() It also reduces chest congestion to a great degree. It helps effectively to give relieve from a blocked nose and sinus or a throat irritation.
